Gullible Character - Writing Prompt

She believed everything she was ever told. From a young age Lilly was always taught to tell the truth, she had always assumed that the rest of the world knew that as well. It was a blind faith that she had in people and grade school wasn’t much different from home. She figured sense the teachers were smart, they must know everything too and only speak the truth. Her classmates would tell her such amazing stories about Paris, or the magical creature that gave them every answer to homework. She never once thought to doubt them. She had no reason to. Her life went on around her as she kept her head up in the clouds. It suited her well.

High school started and was beyond eye opening. Lilly had many firsts in those days. Her first crush. Rayden was the star of the football team and everyone wanted him. Lilly followed her friends and listened to them talk about him. How hot he was, how someone else heard a dirty rumor about him. The girls would fly into a fit of giggles each time.

“Hey Lilly wait up!”

Hearing her name but not recognizing the voice, Lilly turned around. Her jaw almost dropped open with surprise. “Rayden, what’s up?” Her head cocked a bit as she spoke, it was an odd behavior but one that she had picked up.

Heather squealed at the news she was just told. “He’s such a player! Are you really going to go out with him?”

“Is he really?” Lilly pulled her legs up against her chest. “I don’t know who to believe, he seemed so nice and genuine.” Her brain spun as she sat there with her best friend.

Three days later Heather picked up her phone without thinking twice. She spoke into the phone, concern in her voice. “Are you okay? I didn’t hear from you after your date!” Her words flowed out at what seemed like five hundred words a minute.

Lilly on the other hand was holding herself back. Her tone was low and there was a hint of tears in her voice. “The stories were right, you were right. It was terrible.” Heather could hear the tears start to fall from her eyes.

In that moment, she believed everything that she had ever heard.

A Message in a Bottle

The salt water rushed against my feet. Pulling my arm back I hurled the amber colored bottle into the salty spray. The soft plunk of it hitting the water echoed back to my ears. It reassured me that I didn’t throw like a girl, or so the saying goes. I stood there until the sun set. Every day after I returned, and waited.

Such a small bottle it was, but it drifted for days. The tides of the world pulled it out to sea only to push it towards another chunk of land. The tiny object was at Poseidon’s mercy. However, it wasn’t the only thing adrift on the tide. “All hands on deck, we sail towards port!” The captain roared over the waves that crashed against the hull of a ship. She was different. Her boots clopped against the deck and she walked across the wooden timbers. Her eyes scanned the open water looking for any hint of land.

“Aye Cap’n.” Loki growled as he pitched the wheel towards the now visible land mass. The rest of the crew scattered and tended their posts. The ship groaned and creaked as it pitched. The ship was tired and so was the crew. A good rest and a payday was just a few knots a head. “Hey Cap’en,” He roared over the boat to get her attention. “what’s that just off starboard?” The hulking cat took one hand off the wheel and pointed at something that was shimmering off the waters surface.

Bella turned to see whatever he hand pointed at. She watched it flicker in the sunlight for a few moments before she could make out the shape to him. She huffed and turned back to her first mate. “That be trash Loki.” A scowl crossed her face and she walked away from the side of the ship.

One of the younger crew members heaved himself over the ship. “There’s a paper in it Captain.” He called out.

Bella snarled at the comment but she was too tired to care. The ocean took a toll on you while you were out and this group of men did nothing to ease it for her. “Fine, grab it, but I’ll not be sending anyone after ya if ye fall in the foam.” She meant every word. The lad would have to swim himself to shore if he lost his footing.

The lad that spotted it took no time to shimmy himself down the side of this ship. With nimble fingers he snatched up the bottle and the message inside and hauled himself back up topside. As much as he wanted to open it, he kept the cork stuff in and handed the entire bottle over to the Captain.

Bella took the bottle and instead of just pulling out the cork, she smashed the neck of it against the ships rail. The glass shattered and she dug out the slip of paper. It was odd. The writing was too nice to be a child’s, and the paper had such weight and texture. A heavy scent of earth and flowers, accented with a musk wafted up towards her nose. Something was odd about this. She unrolled the scrap and her eyes fell upon the short message and she smiled.

What Will You Try to be More Patient About? -Writing Prompt-

 Leora:
She ponders the question for a moment and shifts her weight, making her armor rub against its own steel plates. “I feel like I need to work on understanding where others are coming from. Like Poppy will sometimes do something that’s wrong, but she believes she’s doing it for the right reason. I don’t understand, and I feel like that’s something I need to work on.”

Araxie:
She pushes her glasses up. “Sometimes my brain works too fast?” It was more of a question than an answer. “I need to once in a while slow myself down.” She shrugs at her final statement and goes quiet.

Poppy:
She looks around, with a gleam in her eye. “Poppy is just fine the way she is.” There’s a massive smile on her face and her hair bounces while she readjusts herself on the chair.

Kenna:
With a jab of her thumb towards herself with a grin on her face. Her tongue flipped the match in her mouth to the other side and her teeth pressed down on it. “Perhaps I shouldn’t blow up everything as a first resort.” She throws her head back and let out a laugh.

Valdis:

Her hallow eyes scans the surrounding area. “Patient? I’ve walked this world longer than most of you have, I believe I have that I need. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have things to be done.” She get’s up, her body looking weak, but it doesn’t hinder her gait. She walks off with a massive book in one hand and a scrawling pen in the other.

Gift Short- A Haunting

(Part of a small series I am working on for fun for a friend of mine. Everything posted here is unedited, if later I decide to make a collection out of them, they will be edited at that time.)

“This house is going to be it Jake, we’ll flip this one and everything will start getting so much better.” The gray fennic fox draped her arms around her fiancee. She sighed happily and nuzzled into his warm fur. The German Shepherd wrapped one arm around his mate and sucked in a deep breath. The scent of the old house filled his nostrils. It was going to take a lot of work.

Sense the two had gotten together they had dreamed of flipping houses, now that Jake stepped down from his job they seen the opportunity to do what they had always wanted to do. “You bet baby. I can’t wait to get started.” He licked her head. The two entered the empty house. Much of it was falling apart and a lot needed updating, but they got it for a good price. Well, good enough for what it was. Almost too good. When they asked the realtor why it had been on the market for so long, the cat shifted and looked around before telling them it was just a strange house.

Sun danced through the open windows as they aired out the stale place. Jake went right to work working on schismatics and getting supplies. He shuffled through the house and went down into the small basement. The floor wasn’t finished but he had all of that planned out. It needed a lot of work, but it would be worth it. A few loose boards on the floor caught his blue eyes. His ear flicked. “Well no sense in leaving these down here, they’ll have to go up anyway.” He smiled to himself as he went to pick up the boards. They were stuck fast to the floor. He grunted and trotted up the stairs. “Hey Trix, where is the hammer?”

“I think it’s over there.” She pointed into a corner where a pile of tools were. “Why?” She turned her head, her massive ears focusing in on her lover.

“There are some boards down in the basement that are stuck. I’m going to just haul them out.” He picked up what he was looking for and went right back downstairs. He returned down to the basement and slid the hammer under one of the boards, and like magic it lifted right up. He scratched his head, his fingers running through his dark brown fluff. “Strange.” He shrugged it off and pulled up the other boards and ran them up and out the stairs.

“Everything okay babe?” The fox stood up and walked over to him. Her hands fell on his chest and she kissed him softly.

“Yup. That’s all done, tomorrow I can get some more done. Want to watch Game of Bones?” There wasn’t a lot of things moved into the house while they worked but they weren’t about to give up their favorite T.V. series.

“Of course!” Trixie bolted to the couch and flopped down. “I wonder who they’ll kill off in this episode.” The series was on the third season and half of the original characters were long sense gone. Some deaths were cool, like killing someone with liquid gold. Others ripped your heart out.

The two settled down and ate dinner while they watched the show. Then retired to bed fairly early. The physical work of the house seemed to drain them. It was just cleaning but it seemed like the hours were dragging them down.

Jake bolted upright mid dream. The house felt like it was shaking. He leap from the bed and raced down the stairs, almost tripping over himself half way down. He halted at the base of the stairs. His blue eyes went wide and he whimpered. The front door was wide open. Still locked, but open. He himself had shut and checked that before bed. How could this be? He pondered for a moment and rushed over to shut and relocked the door. He did a sweep of the house, checking the basement. No one had entered. He shrugged it off and drug himself back to bed.

“Everything okay?” Trixie had woken up as Jake had rushed down the stairs.

“The front door was open.” His words were hallow as he spoke them.

    “How the hell?”

He rolled his shoulders. “No idea, but everything is fine. I’ll check the lock in the morning.” They both fell back asleep and dawn came sooner than either of them wished. They both woke up still tired, but it seemed like for no reason.

Trixie had breakfast on the table when Jake came down. “Morning babe. You feeling okay?” She looked at her lover in the eyes. They were still blue, just not nearly as bright. Almost tinted. It hurt her heart.

His voice was gruff and harsh. “I’m fine. I’m getting to work.”

    “Didn’t you want breakfast?”

“No.” He grunted and walked off down to the basement.

Trixie was worried, but she let him go. The hours went by and when more than half the day passed she decided to check on him and bring him something to eat. She put all of her love into the sandwich that she could. She went down to the basement. She dropped the plate and screamed. Before her was a horrific sight. The love of her life was sitting on the floor, covered in blood. A pile of bones lay before him. “Jake, are you alright?” She called from halfway down the stairs. He didn’t answer. She walked down the last few stairs and spoke louder. “Babe, are you okay?”

His head turned without his neck moving. “Yes.” Was all that he said. His eyes were rolled back into his skull and his tail lay flat on the ground. He was not alright, and Trixie knew it. As her foot touched the unfinished floor a chill ran through her. This was bad. “What are you doing down here?” His voice was hallow as the words left.

“I’m worried about you, I think we need to get out of the house.”

“No!” He lunged at her. His hands around her neck. He wasn’t himself. That was clear. “You will never leave.” He growled at her.

Trixie reached out and grabbed the closest thing to her. The old brick came crashing down on her partners head. It wouldn’t do any damage but it knocked him out. She gasped for breath and rushed back up the stairs. Her fingers dialed nine one one and as she punched in the numbers she raced from the house. It wasn’t long before the ambulance showed up. They took Jake to the ER.

“You alright pup?” Her hand stroked his head as his eyes opened. They were bright and blue.

    “What happened?”

“I hit you with a brick.” She explained what happened. He remembered none of it. “I’m going to call someone to cleanse the house.” The next morning a witch showed up. “Thank you for coming so soon.”

The panther waved her hand. “It’s my pleasure. Give me an hour and everything will be fine.” Sure enough, within an hour she was done.

Trixie walked back into the house and it felt so different. It felt clean and bright. Jake came home and over the next few weeks everything went back to a normal house.

Writing Prompt - Princess

Writing prompt - Princess She's not full of glitter or glam, but when she walks in the room she'll still take your breath away. She trips and stumbles, grace not being her middle name. But her smile will chase away any darkness. She dances in the rain and sneaks out after dark. To the world, she might just be one girl, but to one person she is the world. (pardon my poor writing, i have a migraine but wanted to at least get something written today.)
