It's over

Alright, as most of you know, November is over and done with and as the month closed so did another NaNoWriMo contest. For those who haven't been following me, or aren't familiar. It's a personal challenge where people around the world try to write 50,000 words of a new novel in one month. It breaks down to around 1,700 words a day. Sounds easy, but it's for sure not.

I started out strong and lasted longer than I normally do before I hit my lull, so that was nice. There was even one point where I was an entire day a head. I did however, still hit that time where I missed one day and spiraled out of control.

At the end of the month I did end up with a 38,000+ word count. So that on top of 40+ hours a week, is something I am very proud of. I am however, far from my novel being finished. I might not have made my own personal goals, or even NaNoWriMo's, but it's not going to stop me.

I do plan to finish my rough draft. It might not be in November, but I am going to keep working on it until it's done.

Focus

As always for me these last few days will be a flurry of writing to get my words in last minute. This year will be no different. I'm going to do my best and see what I can get done. With that said, I'm about to focus on my writing. I suggest you do the same, even if it's just free writing to take up space. Do it. Get your words in. We can totally still make it. Every word counts! I'll see you all on the other side.

Things Pile Up

Laundry, mail, my responsibilities. It's all been chucked up in a corner and forgotten about for the month. I have 2 book reviews that I need to share with you all, and a bunch of other things that I need to get organized, buuuut that's not going to happen. What is going to happen is I am going to beat my old NaNoWriMo word count. I'm still going to try for the full 50,000 but I will take what I can get.

Happy writing!

The downfall of my own positivity

I have not admitted defeat left. I do have 4 days and could easily still beat NaNoWriMo, but I have accepted the reality of it. Over the Thanksgiving break I returned home only to realize that my partner who is in the hospital, took all the laptop chargers.... and mine died on day one. So in short my entire break was pretty much a waste for writing. I am heartbroken over it because now I need over 4,000 words a day to even make my goal. One top of pulling a double today, it's going to be hard that's for sure. I'm not giving up, far from, but I can see the end, and right now, it's not very pretty.

Happy Thanksgiving!

To all of you, alone or stuck with that one crazy aunt, or you even could be that aunt. Happy Thanksgiving. Stay safe and happy.

As far as my NaNoWriMo work, I'm going to use my holiday alone time to catch up on my word count. I'll catch you all tomorrow.

I fell off the wagon

yup, not only did I fall, I got ran over too. I have been getting some work done in my free time at work, however I am still VERY far behind. I have come to realize that I might not make my final goal. That's not going to stop me from trying though. Haha! I'm just over 29,000 words. By the end of today I am supposed to be over 38,000. So right now I am almost 10,000 words behind and I only have about a week left to do it. Good news is, I have tomorrow off and no family so I will have plenty of time to write. Let's see what I can get done today as well. My old record for one day was 15,000. I'm willing to bet, with some planning, I can easily do better.

NaNoWriMo Day 20

So, I worked a full day at work today and we were very slow. I took full advantage of it. I wrote on my phone. Typing away during those times. I added an extra 1,000 words to my count. I'm still very far behind, but that shows me that there is always hope to catch up. I will continue to do this when I can and see where it gets me. I know this week is going to be a low count for me with the holiday coming up. So I am not worried quite yet. I can make this up and even if I don't, I'm still getting closer to my goal.

Late Day 19

I didn't forget again, I just slept. It felt so good, but it of course put me even farther behind. I know that I can still catch up. But the feeling of giving it all up is right there in the front of my mind. If you are feeling this way, don't worry, you arn't alone in this battle. We can still pick up the pieces, and we can still win. (Or at least make our goal!) Now excuse me while I go back to writing.

Day 18 Part 2

So my day isn't over yet and again, I haven't gotten my word count in. I was busy sleeping. I did however find out what I work the rest of this week. It's going to be busy, but I can slip in some writing times. I also think I'll be handwriting while I'm on buses and what not. I will catch up. My target daily word count is still under my own personal goal of 2,000 a day. So there is plenty of hope still. There is always hope.

Be kind to yourself this week, especially if you are behind. Every word counts toward that end goal. Even if it doesn't seem like it, they do add up. Take the small victories and be proud. Even if you just write 100 words, it's a victory.

Day 18, part one.

So as most of you know, over the past few days I fumbled. Didn't type a thing. So I'm behind a good 5,000 words. Guess what? I'm not worried at all. Even though this next week is going to be rough, I'm not giving up on this. Why? Because I want it. I crave it. I will get words done. I might not finish but I am going to give it my all.

I've started my come back with writing on my breaks and getting a good 200+ words in. Not much, but I'm still going. You can do! We can do this!

Thursday, November 17, 2016

Day 17: I fell behind.

I told you all it was going to happen. I did it, I finally fell behind in my word count. I took a few days and wen't home and bam, my word count dropped. Bad.... However! I'm not done yet. Watch me bring this back all while facing one of the busiest weeks this month. If I can do this, so can you!

Another late night. NaNoWriMo 2016

Day 14!

Wow, two full weeks into this mess and I am still going strong. I actually did get my personal goal of 2,000+ words in for the day. It's a good feeling. I'm still so happy that I chose to do this again this year.

If you arn't with me, or are even behind, that's okay!!! Do those extra 100 words today! Take 10 minutes and do a word sprint. Let me know your numbers! I can't wait to see.

Day 13 NaNoWriMo

okay guys, I didn't forget about you! I swear. I did however, pull a double at work and only now have I hacked into some internet. It's been a long night. But good news is, I did keep my total count where it needs to be. I fell short of my personal goal, but I am going to rebuild that today/tomorrow. Whatever it is. Anyway, nap time.

Get your words in!

NaNoWriMo 2016 Day 12

Wow, these past twelve days have just flown by. I also can't believe that I broke over 20,000 words today total. 21,000+ words, in 12 days. That alone is crazy. I am happy that my writing has finally gotten back on track at least. It gives me hope.

This year wasn't just about writing a novel. At least not for me. After my fail at this event last year I was ready to throw in the towel with writing. I told myself that I couldn't do it, and that I wasn't good at it. I didn't however, just give up. My lovely partner told me to take some time off of work and focus on what I wanted to do with my life. My heart told me that I wanted to write. So I did. This past year I have published six (6) books. That is another amazing number. I can't help but to be proud of myself.

I did of course find fault in my own work. The things that I did publish were short and it was hard for me to actually work on them. I would get some inspiration and do good for maybe a day or two, then I would fizzle out. Lesson Learned (part one) was actually all written in one night, well at least the rough draft was. I still didn't think that I could make this passion of mine a hobby.

NaNoWriMo this year was a chance. One of my personal last chances. I wanted to use this year not only to write a story I have been working on for more than six years. It was a chance to get myself into a daily writing habit. My own personal goal was to write 2,000 words a day. I haven't quite done that, but I can say that I have written every single day this month so far. I even did some words on the most stressful day (election day). It wasn't a lot, but it was progress.

I am now here, my average at roughly 1,700 and some odd words a day. On top of working full time. I am beyond proud of myself and am finally giving myself permission to pursue this as more than just a hobby. This just goes to show you, that if you want to write, you will. Nothing can stop the stories.

Get that word count in. Every. Single. Day. Even if it's just 10 words, do it.

Day 11 of NaNoWriMo 2016

I'm still farther behind than I wanted to be, however, I am still moving forward. I hit my word goal today and that's a darn good start to this.

Sadly tomorrow my very long work week begins and the holiday season is setting in. I will keep everyone updated on my personal progress here, and I'd love to hear about yours as well, but tonight I don't have too much effort for this.

 <3 you all, happy writing.

Day 10 of NaNoWriMo 2016

It's still hard to write, my mind is scattered and with the holidays coming up my work schedule is getting more and more crazy. I am however, at least back on track. Those few bad days set me off of my great lead. Told you I wouldn't keep it. haha. But that's all okay.

Each day I have continued to move forward. I am now nearing 17,000 words and that's still a lot for only 10 days of writing (2 that were very unproductive.). I might be down, but I am far from out. So don't you believe anything else.

Get some words in, take a break, get some more done. Just 100 words will get you to your goal. Think, 100 words a day, in a year you will have 36,000. So even if you don't hit 50,000 this month, you can still finish your book. You can always do it.

day 10

hey everyone... still mostly numb from what happened last night. My country is full of horrid people, even worse, they can't figure out why we are having riots right now. It breaks my heart.

Writing today however has been better. My massive lead has for sure shrank. So see, it happens to everyone. I know that I can catch up and get back to my own goals. If I can, so can you!

Tuesday, November 8, 2016

I couldn't write today.

I've been sitting looking at my computer for hours now, and have typed a whole 167 words. That's pathetic for me. My mind has been elsewhere. The U.S. Election. Today my country picked between two people. Both liars, both cheats. One who claims to "grab 'em by the pussy because you can" and another who they say is responsible for deaths. We lost today. Now the evening is almost over and the end is near. It is an end to everything. All of the progress made. If our new potential leader has his way, there will be no gay rights, he is removing them. He will be ripping families apart and shipping them away. We as a country will revert.

I am scared for the first time. I am scared to death because, of other peoples choices, I could actually loose my life. I can loose my rights as a human and as a woman. Our rape culture will skyrocket. I will be scared now everywhere, because one man with power said it was okay to just grab woman. He will take away birth control rights.

I am scared for my life, my hopes, dreams, and for my happiness. I can't seem to write with these conditions. I can only hope that tomorrow the sun rises, and that the day is better.

Day 7

Wow this past week has flown by. I honestly didn't think that I would be on track, I almost never am with this thing. This year however, I am beyond happy to say that I have just passed 15,000 words. I am days a head, and it feels great.

To those of you who think you can't catch up, I don't believe it. I've done 15,000 words while working full time. You can easily do even 500 words a day, on those days off, get some extra in. Try some word sprints. I normally do some on my breaks. 10 minutes. That's it, and I can normally get 200 words or more. So think about that. take 15 minutes before work, and another 15 when you get home and there is easily 500 or more words. Add in one 30 minute session, and bam, you are only 100 or so words short of the daily target goal.

You can do it, there is always time. Even if you don't win or finish. Even if you only write 50 words per day or even 20. Keep at it. Write every single day and even that 20 at the end of the month is a 600 word count. One month! That's still a lot of words. Also the more you write, the easier it gets. If you really enjoy this, you will do it time and time again. You'll sneak away and get a few words done. You'll scribble down notes while at work. You will do it, and you can!

Happy writing everyone, and good luck.

end of day 6

A little late depending on where you are located at, but close enough. I'm currently just under 13,000 words. I am still super excited that for once I am actually a head of where I should be. If you're not, that's okay! Just take it one step at a time. Say you haven't even started yet, write 100 words tomorrow, and go from there. Little bits even will get you there in the long run. YOU CAN DO IT!

Saturday, November 5, 2016

End of day 5?

Yup, at least I think it is, if not, let's just pretend. I'm currently at over 11,000 words and I am beyond proud of myself. I'm going to take the rest of the night off and actually relax. Hope you are all getting in your words!

Friday, November 4, 2016

End of Day 4

It's day 4 going into day 5 and I am so happy that I hit 10,000 words for the month already.

If you aren't where I am, that's totally fine. First off you have lots of time to catch up. Second, write YOUR story. You aren't writing mine, you are writing your's. Even 30 words will get you there. Just take a few moments and get it done. I know you can do it, because I am even while working two jobs and massive travel times.

YOU GOT THIS!

NaNoWriMo - Day 3

That's right, end of day three is upon at least me. I have to go off to work. I did however, get some words done. Not a full count but that's okay. Today's final is 5,923 and I'm at a decent stop where I an take it to work and get some word run's in tonight on my breaks.

If you haven't gotten your words in, don't worry at all! You have lots of time! Even if you just start now, even just 10 words, you are getting one step closer to your goals.

Wednesday, November 2, 2016

End of Day two: NaNoWriMo2016

Well I'm happy to say that I am on track still. We'll see how long that lasts. Get those words in! You can do it!

Tuesday, November 1, 2016

NaNoWriMo

Dealing with personal feelings

Title says it all, this post will be a bit short and very personal. As hopefully all of you know I did recently release my first fantasy genre novel, and I was hoping it would do well. I figured sense it isn't such touchy subject (porn for a simple word) that it would bring in a wider group of people. It let me down. I'm not sure why I expect so much from myself, or my books, and I don't know what I'm "doing wrong". I don't know what I really expected, just thought that if I tried hard and kept going that it would slowly get better. My numbers dropped with this book. I know not everything I do will be great, but I always just hope that instead of one selling maybe two will.

I don't really know what steps to take next to build my audience, maybe I should dump money into something now that I am overworking myself with "normal jobs". I just don't know what to do or where to turn to next on this, and I feel it breaking my spirit. I have all these books planned and I am so excited to write them, but yet I feel like I never will because I need to work "real jobs" and while yes I can (and will) keep writing while working 60+ hour weeks, it feels like those novels will take so much longer and my dream feels like it's fading.

I apologize for such a depressing post, but I do feel like others need to see they are not alone in their feelings. This happens. It sucks, but it does happen. You can either let the feelings win, or keep writing. I know that I will keep writing.

Busy Days

Days like today are a writers worst nightmare, I have roughly 16 hours of work a head of me today. Know what that means? I'm taking a notebook! Like you guys really think that's going to stop me. Nope. I'm bringing along a notebook so that I can at least work out the rest of my characters for "Between Heaven and Hell" my NaNoWriMo novel for this year. So ha! Not a day wasted. I can't believe that starts in only a few days! I am so beyond excited and I can't wait to share it all with you guys this year.

Just a normal update

I have picked up a few jobs for the holiday season, so the next few weeks will be crazy for me. I will be working said normal jobs, as well as participating in NaNoWriMo next month, all while still trying to stay sane. It's pretty much not going to happen. Also I have poofed because my net is currently down for a little bit. I will have it on the days when I am up in the city, so I will try to crunch in as many posts as I can in those days and schedule them. (such a nice feature!)

Anyway, none of you are here to listen to me ramble. You want to know when the next book is coming out and what's going on with that. Well I have some good news and bad news.

Good news, I've been working on a new lesbian romance/fantasy novel and am already nearing 10,000 words on the draft, and I'm only about a week into this one. So it's gonna be massive. My goal for it is around 50,000 words total and to push it out around March or April of next year. We'll see how that goes. Again, November is taking priority. That will be another 50,000 word lesbian fantasy romance, but more aimed toward the fantasy. You'll hear more about that all later. (AKA all through November!)

Bad news is that the new short due out, is still at round two with the editors. I'm hoping that I can push it through within the next week, so you should still be seeing it fairly soon.

That's about all I have for now, not much reading going on, but how about an excerpt from the book you are all waiting for?

~Skadia

Working on a Cook Book

This really doesn't have much to do with my novels, but it is a book and something I am personally working on. One of my partners has been sick for the better (or worse part I suppose) part of two years. Over that time I have done a lot of learning. I learned more about food that I ever thought I would need too, and I had a lot of wrong information to dig through as well. I am hoping to take the information I have been given and apply it to her health. In that time I want to start working on compiling all the recipes that I can for people with pancreatic dietary needs.

I will be posting them (on my food blog not here), for free and small parts will be available for free as well when published. I'll keep you all posted.

Something Fun

Taking a little break for everything serious. I want to post something a bit more fun. For anyone who didn't know, I'm a lesbian. Over the years I have been asked so many things, so I'm going to answer them all. It's gonna get freaky in here.

Ask me anything about lesbians and I'll be sure to answer it in an upcoming post!

Halloween Mix Up

Just a little tidbit of a collaboration I'm working on.

It was like any other October night; the air was crisp and light, a hint of cold on its breath. Skadia stood over her cauldron mixing clockwise. She mumbled a few words as she went over the recipe again. The mix was almost done, and it was going to be the talk of the town. Each year she made a spiced pumpkin ale and gave it out to the community, anyone who wanted some was more than welcome. It brought her pride, and the others looked forward to it. This year she had been working on making it the best its ever been. Within the last few moments a thought struck her—one final thing to make it perfect. She pulled her robes up off her ankles and hurried off to the cabinet.

While her back was turned her beloved fur babies decided to help her. Anya, a great black cat with golden eyes watched from her perch up in the rafters. Her eyes followed as the youngest of the three fur children strutted over to the cauldron. “Snowfire, you shouldn’t be near that, mom will skin you.” The oldest of the witches three warned her.

“I will be fine, I just want to look.” Snowfire protested as she leapt up onto the ledge just above the bubbling mix.

The largest of the three came over and sat off to the side, well away from the cast iron pot, her long gray fur sleek and smooth. “Snow, you should really listen to Anya, remember what happened last year?” Her voice was low and smooth.

The year prior Snowfire had actually fallen into the drink. She was fine luckily, but Skadia was fairly upset and had to remake the entire batch. “I’m being careful!” The small white cat protested. As she was distracted by her sisters however, she slipped, one paw catching on a potion bottle on the shelf. The small bottle rocked back and forth on the wooden shelf.

“Snow!” Both cats called to their younger sibling.

Anya leapt down, her fur catching the warm firelight. She landed on the shelf and grabbed Snowfire in her teeth, pulling her little sister up onto the shelf. The small bottle had fallen over, the cork popping out when it landed on its side, the liquid dripping into the ale brew below. The eldest cat pushed the bottle upright but sadly she was too late. More than half the potion had already spilled out.

“She comes!” Bean whispered and in a gray streak went bolting from the room.

“Come on, quick, and be careful!” Anya commanded Snowfire as she leapt from the shelf. Snowfire followed, her ears and tail down.

“I didn’t mean to...” She apologized to her elder.

Anya licked her little sister’s head, smoothing her speckled fur. “It’s alright. Mom will fix it.” The two trotted off just as Skadia walked back into the room, her mystery ingredient in hand.

She tossed the final thing in and mixed it up right quick. With a satisfied smile she took a small sip. It was perfect. She let it cool, and got it into bottles. She sealed them up and rushed out to give them to some friends who were waiting for this batch. She took plenty and before long her friends would share them as well with their own.

As the moon rose high in the sky she returned home and sighed happily. She bottled the rest of the batch and left them all out on the porch for anyone to have. She tucked herself into bed, proud of what she did that day and she couldn’t wait to hear what her friends thought of this year’s drink.

Procrastinating

Procrastinating, it's just about my favorite thing to do. When it comes to editing, I do it more than ever. It makes me mad while I do it, but it's almost like an addiction. Like right now! I'm halfway through editing a chapter, but decided to tell you all about it instead. I'm also going to tell you I made bread today! The chapter is still not finished.

I have noticed today (day 3 or 4 of editing), it's getting easier to run through it. I'm far from enjoying it, but today I don't feel like I'm just staring at the screen. Then again, I know I'm not because I'm over here, rambling and wasting my time. I'm also checking facebook and my amazon sales sheet, because the lack of numbers slightly drives me? Some days? No idea, all I know is I need to get back to editing. So while you continue to waste time on the internet, check out my books! Give me a reason to look at my amazon sales sheet!

.99c read here. Short sweet and to the point!
If longer is more your thing, check out a mini series I did.

Now for your tidbit today. My favorite part from my reading today.

     "I don't think I have, Bob."
"That's not my name," he said, and he finally took his eyes off me long enough to flick them towards the parking lot.
Shit. He was calculating how fast he'd have to run to get rid of me.

My best Writing Advice.

Don't quit your day job. Trust me. I know it will be hard, but even just going down to part time will be better than quitting. It takes time and money to build your name as an author. Even if your first book is a hit, it will take time to write, edit, and perfect, all while getting your name out there. One self publishing author I spoke too said it took her three years to earn a wage.

Do yourself a favor, keep your day job until the checks start coming in.

Breaks

Sometimes we work ourselves to our limit before we remember that we need a break from time to time. You have them at work to help keep employees "sane" and to break up the mental wear and tear on the brain. Sometimes, you need to do that in real life too.

I love writing, I do it almost every day (if not every day!), but some days are more taxing on me than others. Days when I work on editing my work, normally after a chapter I don't even want to get a glass of water, let alone do anything else. Those days kill my productivity more than anything else. Even worse, I cannot take breaks while editing, or I won't want to go back. Some days, I need to make myself do it.

When writing it's easy for me to set up breaks. "Write 1,000 words, then go make some lunch." Super easy and after the break I'm normally ready to jump right back into my work. Some days I mess up and let myself play video games during my breaks. While they inspire me to write, they also are a big distraction. Progress is progress.

Even more important that a fresh mind is a working one. Some days my depression hits me hard. Like the days where I have a hard time dragging myself even out of my bed kind of hard. Days like that I use as my "off" days. Most days I try to at least do one productive thing, but on days like that, I change things up. I tell myself that I don't have to do anything, that it's my day off and that tomorrow will be better. Some days it works. Some days I even get things done and feel more proud of myself, while helping myself pull out of the negative feelings.

It's okay to take breaks. To take some personal time for yourself. Do it. You will normally feel better and get more done!

What are some ways you make yourself take a break from normal life?

I also think that each post now will contain some small parts of whatever I am working on or a hit on what I have been reading as well with some tidbits from that mixed in. Keep you all on your toes.

"The great man pulled his wife off and looked her in the face. “I’ll be home soon my Zena.” He kissed her head, stooped down and picked up his children. “You ladies have to take care of your mom while I am gone, alright?” The two younger girls squealed as he planted mustache kisses on their cheeks."  -A Paladin She'll Be, Skadia Trazon

Book Review - Winterwood

I just finished reading Winterwood (Rowankind book one) by Jacey Bedford. It is a book that follows a female pirate through an adventure. Jacey Bedford is a new author to me, and one that I will happily be looking out for in the future. This is the first in a series so it's a great place to start. My review here is all based on my own personal opinions and likes. I personally like fantasy novels that feature main female leads. It was one thing that really drew me into this book. It's filled with magic, romance, and adventure.

"It's 1800 - Mad King George is on the British throne, and Bonaparte is hammering at the door. Magic is strictly controlled by the Mysterium, but despite sever penalties, not all magic users have registered. Integral to many genteel households is an uncomplaining army of rowankind bondservants, so common-place that no one recalls where they came from."

Some things that I really liked about this book, the writing. Very few errors and if there where the story sucked me in to the point where I missed it. The twists and turns were not normal for books like this and Jacey built a world on magic on top of our own that blended the two almost seamlessly.

The main Characters are full of life and faults. Ross Tremayne, the main character of our story and lead pirate, is a widowed cross-dressing privateer captain. Her dark secret is that she's a witch. Magic is what lead her out to the sea, but it's also what brings her back ashore. Lot's of twists and turns with this character and another main character, David. But if you want all of that, you'll have to read the book.

I personally could not relate to many of the characters, however they each enthralled me with their own magic. As a pagan I was happy to see the "Lord and Lady of the Forrest" in there. It brought a smile to my face.

Overall I was happy with the book as a whole. Normally I want to rewrite things, but that wasn't the case with this one. I'm just excited to read the next one.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a bit of magic.

Title says it all really. Not much a post today because I am working on that review of Winterwood. That way you can all have a quality post of it. Enjoy your day!

Inspration

Sometimes you need a pick me up. Some days that comes from something as simple as coffee. Other days you need a bit more of a push to get things done. Still others nothing seems to be able to draw out the words from your soul.

That's okay. It happens, even to the best of us. Nothing is always simple, if it was, everyone could do it.

Sometimes pulling yourself out of a funk can be hard. A few things I do to keep things moving, I'll share with you today.

*Read a book. Really, go pick up your favorite and start reading. Find what about that book makes it good to you. Learn from that.

*Start Free Writing. Free writing is a good thing to do to just keep your brain moving and your writing going forward. Just type whatever is in your mind. It can be as simple as I don't know what to write so I'm just going to tell you about my dog.... It doesn't have to be productive, it just needs to be done.

*Go back and Edit. Take a few steps back and go back and work on editing if you are stuck. At one point you had the story in your head, going back can sometimes job your memory.

*Write a different part. That simple, stuck on one part, write another! You can always go back and write between them.

Find what works best for you and work with it! Sometimes even writing prompts can get your words flowing.

Happy Writing!

Rise from the Grave - Magic the Gathering Fanfiction

(Just a quick fanfiction that I slapped together. If you like it, let me know, I'd love to do more.)

The Litch rose up before the woman, his crown of ice framing his dead skull. His armor creaked with each step he took towards her, and the cold rolled off of his frame in waves, chilling the air around him and freezing anything he came into contact with. The tip of his frozen blade dug a thin trench through the earth as he moved forward. The ice king’s horde roared behind him, and as their maws opened a blue glow illuminated the sky.

The age-old Litch stopped. Both feet squared and with a single hand he raised his two handed ice blade to the sky. Behind his helmet his eyes glowed as the waves of chill turned into waves of magic. The undead leader roared into the sky and a rumble followed his call.

Miles away the earth split in half, ice and rock crumbling and shattering as the magic took effect. From under the earth rose a beast. In its glory day it was a great dragon, but now after time and death had ate away most of the flesh the creature was more bone that anything. The magic wrapped around the bones and pulled the beast up from the ground. Its wings stretched wide for the first time since its demise, and its skeletal body took to the sky the beauty and grace of a dragon still in the very essence of its bones. With a few beat of its wings the miles of ground rushed by.

Liliana sucked in a cold, deep breath. The Litch was sucking the life out of everything around her, and while she had worked with them in the past, she had never really gotten used to that. She watched as her enemies lined up and looked to the sky. She had heard the earth rip itself apart. She stood there, terrified as what was once a dragon rose up before her. What started as a small speck in the sky turned out to be a monster from before the ice age. And it was hungry. She swallowed hard and clenched her fist.

Liliana stood there, a small glow around her. She was battered from her trials. Parts of her clothing was charred from a fire bolt spell. Other parts were still soaked with muck from the swamp lands. She had bruises all over and more than half of her legion had fallen. It was looking hopeless for her, but she would be damned if she gave up now. Liliana Vess did not just give up when things got hard, she normally rode them out. She pulled herself together and faced the sky, her head held high and her eyes honing in on the skeletal dragon.  “This ends today Nevinyrral!” Her purple magic spiraled around her.

“Oh does it now? Pretty lady, you think you can just come in here, steal my horde of treasure?” The Litch laughed at her efforts to intimidate him. He had armies, and a treasure trove of resources. “But you are right, it will end today.” He pulled a device out of his robes and smiled. The Litch took one more step toward her, and with that step, disappeared into thin air. His army however, and the hovering dragon still watched her every move, their mouths glowing an eerie blue.

“Strike!” She summoned and pushed her hand forward. Her personal horde of undead lurched toward the enemy as her magic pulled them. The beasts and creatures drug themselves and hobbled with a speed that was unnatural. A few that were a little more together dropped to all fours and charged the enemy, running half of the beasts own team in the process but no one seemed to notice or care. It was chaos to say the least.

The skeletal forces charged each other, clashing in the center. Liliana worked her magic and threw spells left and right, making the skeletons crumble before her. The bones piled up around her and mixed with her own forces at her feet. A sick grin crossed her face—they could be replaced. A shrug followed the thought, as they were also already dead. The skeletal dragon hovered above and circled the battle that unfolded before it. Liliana looked up to the sky. The beast was dead.

The Litch might have control over this creature, but in the end, it was still dead, and she was a necromancer. Liliana sucked in a deep breath and took a few steps back. Her own warriors flew forward into the throws of the battle to keep their mistress safe. The necromancer steadied her breathing and pulled the energy around her. Her hands twisted and turned, cupping the flowing energy and drawing it all into her. This would be the biggest thing she had ever done so far.

She threw her hands toward the beast that was munching on both allies and enemies. The magic rushed from her and flowed around the dragon. “You will obey me.” Her purple magic flowed around the beast’s glowing bones and slowly took over the blue light, smothering it under its own purple hues. “Death is no excuse for disobedience.” She called to the sky and the creature withered and pulled against itself, the two magics fighting and tearing it apart.

The skeletal dragon plummeted to the ground, its massive body crashing into its own ranks. The blue glow of the undead was snuffed out under the creature. Liliana pulled and heaved, her will curving and flexing the magic that controlled the dragon like a puppet. It stood up, now a deep purple glow in its eyes. It lashed out and grabbed the nearest Litch knight. With one bite the blue glow stopped and the two halves of the body fell to the ground. The dragon roared and the forces around it stopped mid battle.

The ground trembled below. It was just like before when the Litch awoke the dragon, but it was different. A smell of sulfur was in the air this time along with the stench of death. Liliana looked to the horizon and saw a massive cloud of smoke rising from the tip of a mountain. There was a scream from the Litch king’s forces. The skeletons cried as they fell apart, the blue glow going with them. Within a moment the world seemed to stand still. Even the dragon’s bones did not creek in the wind.

“What just happened?” The necromancer whispered to herself.

Gift Short- A Haunting

(Part of a small series I am working on for fun for a friend of mine. Everything posted here is unedited, if later I decide to make a collection out of them, they will be edited at that time.)

“This house is going to be it Jake, we’ll flip this one and everything will start getting so much better.” The gray fennic fox draped her arms around her fiancee. She sighed happily and nuzzled into his warm fur. The German Shepherd wrapped one arm around his mate and sucked in a deep breath. The scent of the old house filled his nostrils. It was going to take a lot of work.

Sense the two had gotten together they had dreamed of flipping houses, now that Jake stepped down from his job they seen the opportunity to do what they had always wanted to do. “You bet baby. I can’t wait to get started.” He licked her head. The two entered the empty house. Much of it was falling apart and a lot needed updating, but they got it for a good price. Well, good enough for what it was. Almost too good. When they asked the realtor why it had been on the market for so long, the cat shifted and looked around before telling them it was just a strange house.

Sun danced through the open windows as they aired out the stale place. Jake went right to work working on schismatics and getting supplies. He shuffled through the house and went down into the small basement. The floor wasn’t finished but he had all of that planned out. It needed a lot of work, but it would be worth it. A few loose boards on the floor caught his blue eyes. His ear flicked. “Well no sense in leaving these down here, they’ll have to go up anyway.” He smiled to himself as he went to pick up the boards. They were stuck fast to the floor. He grunted and trotted up the stairs. “Hey Trix, where is the hammer?”

“I think it’s over there.” She pointed into a corner where a pile of tools were. “Why?” She turned her head, her massive ears focusing in on her lover.

“There are some boards down in the basement that are stuck. I’m going to just haul them out.” He picked up what he was looking for and went right back downstairs. He returned down to the basement and slid the hammer under one of the boards, and like magic it lifted right up. He scratched his head, his fingers running through his dark brown fluff. “Strange.” He shrugged it off and pulled up the other boards and ran them up and out the stairs.

“Everything okay babe?” The fox stood up and walked over to him. Her hands fell on his chest and she kissed him softly.

“Yup. That’s all done, tomorrow I can get some more done. Want to watch Game of Bones?” There wasn’t a lot of things moved into the house while they worked but they weren’t about to give up their favorite T.V. series.

“Of course!” Trixie bolted to the couch and flopped down. “I wonder who they’ll kill off in this episode.” The series was on the third season and half of the original characters were long sense gone. Some deaths were cool, like killing someone with liquid gold. Others ripped your heart out.

The two settled down and ate dinner while they watched the show. Then retired to bed fairly early. The physical work of the house seemed to drain them. It was just cleaning but it seemed like the hours were dragging them down.

Jake bolted upright mid dream. The house felt like it was shaking. He leap from the bed and raced down the stairs, almost tripping over himself half way down. He halted at the base of the stairs. His blue eyes went wide and he whimpered. The front door was wide open. Still locked, but open. He himself had shut and checked that before bed. How could this be? He pondered for a moment and rushed over to shut and relocked the door. He did a sweep of the house, checking the basement. No one had entered. He shrugged it off and drug himself back to bed.

“Everything okay?” Trixie had woken up as Jake had rushed down the stairs.

“The front door was open.” His words were hallow as he spoke them.

    “How the hell?”

He rolled his shoulders. “No idea, but everything is fine. I’ll check the lock in the morning.” They both fell back asleep and dawn came sooner than either of them wished. They both woke up still tired, but it seemed like for no reason.

Trixie had breakfast on the table when Jake came down. “Morning babe. You feeling okay?” She looked at her lover in the eyes. They were still blue, just not nearly as bright. Almost tinted. It hurt her heart.

His voice was gruff and harsh. “I’m fine. I’m getting to work.”

    “Didn’t you want breakfast?”

“No.” He grunted and walked off down to the basement.

Trixie was worried, but she let him go. The hours went by and when more than half the day passed she decided to check on him and bring him something to eat. She put all of her love into the sandwich that she could. She went down to the basement. She dropped the plate and screamed. Before her was a horrific sight. The love of her life was sitting on the floor, covered in blood. A pile of bones lay before him. “Jake, are you alright?” She called from halfway down the stairs. He didn’t answer. She walked down the last few stairs and spoke louder. “Babe, are you okay?”

His head turned without his neck moving. “Yes.” Was all that he said. His eyes were rolled back into his skull and his tail lay flat on the ground. He was not alright, and Trixie knew it. As her foot touched the unfinished floor a chill ran through her. This was bad. “What are you doing down here?” His voice was hallow as the words left.

“I’m worried about you, I think we need to get out of the house.”

“No!” He lunged at her. His hands around her neck. He wasn’t himself. That was clear. “You will never leave.” He growled at her.

Trixie reached out and grabbed the closest thing to her. The old brick came crashing down on her partners head. It wouldn’t do any damage but it knocked him out. She gasped for breath and rushed back up the stairs. Her fingers dialed nine one one and as she punched in the numbers she raced from the house. It wasn’t long before the ambulance showed up. They took Jake to the ER.

“You alright pup?” Her hand stroked his head as his eyes opened. They were bright and blue.

    “What happened?”

“I hit you with a brick.” She explained what happened. He remembered none of it. “I’m going to call someone to cleanse the house.” The next morning a witch showed up. “Thank you for coming so soon.”

The panther waved her hand. “It’s my pleasure. Give me an hour and everything will be fine.” Sure enough, within an hour she was done.

Trixie walked back into the house and it felt so different. It felt clean and bright. Jake came home and over the next few weeks everything went back to a normal house.

Books are in!

Oh it is one happy day here for me. My books have finally come in today. Just in time too because I just finished up my last one. I am hoping to do not just a textual review but also perhaps a vlog review of the book as well. I also found a few new forum's that I am going to play around with. They are mostly writing forums so I might be working on some new things as well that I may be posting publicly. I know it's been a while sense you all have gotten any story here, so perhaps I'll work on something. I do have a few things that I can toss up so maybe keep your eyes peeled over the next few days. You'll never know.

Now, onto the next book! I decided I am going to dig right into "Black Dog" Hellhoud Chronicles. Caitlin Kitteredge has written fifteen novels for adults and teens including the award-winning Iron Codex trilogy. I got a bargain book of this title to give it a try and the texture of the cover is really odd. Almost like an ultra light sandpaper. Kinda cool. There was no damage so I was very happy about that. This was one of my first times ordering books online and I was a little scared they would arrive torn up in some way shape or form. So that was a good thing. Anyway off to reading I go, and I'll be getting some more things up soon for you all. As always, thank you for your support!

Finding Time to Write

Some people want to write, other's just do it. There is no true excuse for why you don't write. I am guilty of this sometimes myself but then when I really look at myself, I realize I'm a lie.

Now you might be saying "Hey now, I work and have kids, I don't have time to write!"

Yes you do. Don't lie to me. You can only lie to yourself. Do things like that make it harder, yes, but not impossible. Okay so you have kids, writing at home is hard, I'm guessing they have a bed time. Tell them a story, lights out. Gather your thoughts for a bit and then get at least 20 minutes of writing in. I'm also guessing that they like to sleep in as long as they can. Get up just 20-30 minutes earlier, and right there you have almost an hour of writing (on average I can type almost 1,500+ words in that time easy).

Now you say you work, I'll bet to support that family you work full time, normally that's an 8 hour day or more. Those normally come with a 30 minute lunch. Eat while you write and get another 300+ words done.

So now, at the end of that busy week you can have a total of at least 3,000 words just by writing on that lunch break alone. If you ride a train or bus, you can even take that time to start mapping out your story with notes so that when you do have time to type,  you can just crank it out.

Even if you only write one word a day, you are getting closer to finishing that book that you want to write. So no excuses, just take that first step and start writing!

The Excitement of New Books

Most of us know that wonderful feeling when we order something online. We are so excited for our new thing, only to realize that now we have to wait for it to ship to us. Even quick shipping can seem to take forever.

I did a very silly thing and got around to using a gift card I got for christmas. So what does a sensible gal like myself do? Orders books. As many books that the darn thing could get me. Now I have to wait.

One of the books I picked up was one that I have been looking for a long time. A kitchen witches cookbook. I cannot wait to get my hands on that one. The other two that I grabbed are two that I have not heard of yet.

Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews. The first of a new series.
"When the magic is up, rogue mages cast their spells and monsters appear, while guns refuse to fire and cars fail to start. But then technology returns, and the magic recedes as unpredictably as it arose, leaving all kinds of paranormal problems in its wake.

Kate Daniels is a down-on-her-luck mercenary who makes her living cleaning up these magical problems. But when Kate’s guardian is murdered, her quest for justice draws her into a power struggle between two strong factions within Atlanta’s magic circles."

The second was Black Dog: Hellhound Chronicles #1. Another first of a series that seemed interesting to me. It was also in the bargan book section on Barns & Nobel.com.

"Ava has spent the last hundred years as a hellhound, the indentured servant of a reaper who hunts errant souls and sends them to Hell. When a human necromancer convinces her to steal her reaper’s scythe, Ava incurs the wrath of the demon Lilith, her reaper’s boss.

As punishment for her transgression, Lilith orders Ava to track down the last soul in her reaper’s ledger . . . or die trying. "

Reapers? Sign me up! This is another one I cannot wait to get my hands on. The only real question now is, what to read first!

Book Review: Protect and Serve by Terri Reed "Rookie K-9 Unit

Hope you all enjoyed seeing a glimpse into my upcoming novel set. As a treat I'll give you all a break from that boring stuff and do a book review. (I really need to do more of these, it means I get to read more books)

I was at Meijer after a decent pay day and I decided to treat myself after getting my 3rd book out for the year. I was super proud of that one, and I wanted something new to read. I browsed about the shelves looking for something under $5. I was pleasantly surprised to find a cover with dogs on it. Quick history, I have worked with training dogs sense I was 7. So that's pretty exciting. I picked it up even though it was a heterosexual suspense romance. Not my personal cup of tea but I wanted to expand my horizons, and dogs, so I gave it a chance.

I also try my best to finish a book I start, it's a personal rule because there is always something to learn. This was the first book that I broke that rule on. It wasn't at all a bad book, there were just a lot of underlying things that bothered me and disrupted my reading.

The one that really got to me is the fact that she didn't seem to research some aspects of her own book. A few small things she missed the mark on but I shrugged it off and pushed through but as I continued it, I realized what was really bothering me. She seemed to do little to zero research about dogs and how their training goes. To the general public I'm sure it was alright, but the structure of how the organized the training of the actual dogs, bothered me so much. For example, they had police training classing going on, while having some puppies there for training as well. Most facilities that do this type of thing, don't do that. The pups are normally trained in the "off season" so they are ready for the next batch of handlers, said handlers go through about a 3-8 week training course, test out and go on the job as handlers. Not still training their dogs while working the streets. If the dog isn't ready to work, they don't go out to work. So that was something that really bothered me. There were some other points as well, but I chalk a lot of it up as just me.

It was however a good wholesome read. It was also very religious. There was a lot of talk about God, so if that's something that will bother you, pass this one, if that's your cup of tea, try it! I would generally gear this type of book to a Christian mom. Super good and clean but still keeping the story of love and suspense. For sure that had to be hard to balance.

Another thing however, that I couldn't get past in this book was her sense of no timeline. At times I had to really look through the book to get my own personal timeline. There were moments where "the attack" happened two days before, but yet a puppy who was missing from said attack, had a picture taken "yesterday" Things like that. It made me double take a lot and for me, I can't handle books that time jump to begin with.

One last thing about this that bothered me personally was how the author made the characters dance around the idea of a relationship. The idea was constantly reinstated that fact. I understand it's a religious novel, but when reading about a romance, I'd like a little. There are ways to make it work without it loosing it's wholesomeness.

Overall the quality of the book was great, especially for a low priced book. The writing style itself was really enjoyable and I think that's why those small details pulled me out of the story.

My final thoughts: Okay, if you have a few spare bucks and cops with dogs saving a dog trainer from her crazy brother sounds cool. READ IT! Try it. If god, and a glitchy timeline bother you, you might want to pass on this read.

Best of luck! What are you reading? If you've read this book please PLEASE leave your own feedback at the bottom, I'd love to hear from you.
